The Bona Fide Traveller

The Bona Fide Traveller

I will step into your doorway
I will step into your life

There will be a serving somewhere,
For me tonight

My road is long, the path is windy
As I keep ahead

The work is hard, the work has rewards,
As I keep my family fed

The light in your window lets me know
Your front room is open for me to take a short rest
In your fire’s glow

The Traveller is Bona Fide
He longs to come inside
The road he walks is long and wide
The work he does, holds up his pride

*This poem is inspired by Uncle Micael’s voice note memories – Howth Road 7 – sent to me in August 2021
