About Orla – Natural Light Photographer
Hi, I’m Orla, an adventurer at heart and a photographer by passion. Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
From an early age, I was drawn to capturing moments, places, and stories through the lens.
A Life Shaped by Travel
I was born in Ireland, but at the age of 11 my family moved to Africa. That move changed everything. Seeing Table Mountain for the first time sparked a lifelong love of travel, landscapes, and visual storytelling.
Over the past 30 years, I have travelled extensively across Africa, photographing its people, wildlife, coastlines, and wide-open spaces. My journeys have taken me through South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Kenya, Malawi, Eswatini, Lesotho, Tanzania, Zanzibar, and Mauritius. Each destination has influenced how I see the world and how I photograph it.
Back Home in Ireland
In recent years, I returned to Ireland, a place that continues to inspire me deeply. The dramatic coastlines, changing light, historic landmarks, and warm communities offer endless photographic opportunities.
One of my greatest passions is photographing Irish lighthouses. Scattered along the rugged coastline, each lighthouse has its own character and story. Documenting these iconic structures has become an important and ongoing part of my work.
Lighthouses are a fascination of mine and Ireland has more around this island than one would imagine.
I have visited a number of these remarkable monuments and am logging them through photographs – photos to be shared as my treasured travels continue.
Sharing the Journey
Through this website and my photography books, I share the places I’ve been, the moments I’ve witnessed, and the stories that have shaped my journey. My hope is that my images allow you to experience the beauty, mood, and emotion of each location.
High-resolution prints are available on request, and I’m always delighted to share my work with fellow lovers of photography, travel, and nature.
I am privileged to share some of these moments with you on my website, as well as within some photography books of mine, and I trust that you will find time to experience just some of the marvels that surround us.
